Recharged AC/DC Announce Release Date For ‘Shot in the Dark’ Single

AC/DC are getting ready to PWRUP. The Australian metal legends have been teasing a return to rocking, and on Monday morning (Oct. 5) they made it official with a release date for the first single from their upcoming album, “Shot in the Dark.”

The brief preview of the predictably neck-snapping tune is highlighted by one of guitarist Angus Young’s signature heavy riffs, as well as snapshots of the reformed group’s members.

The single announcement comes after weeks of teases from the group, which is also welcoming the return of singer Brian Johnson, who stepped aside in 2016 on doctor’s orders due to hearing-loss issues. Late rhythm guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young died in November 2017 at age 64, three years after he stepped down from the band due to complications from dementia.

AC/DC went on hiatus after wrapping their “Rock or Bust” tour in 2016, which featured Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose filling in for an ailing Johnson. After that tour, longtime bassist Cliff Williams also announced that he was leaving the group.

The teaser confirms that in addition to Johnson being back in the fold, Williams has signed on again, along with longtime drummer Phil Rudd, who left the band in 2015  after being found guilty of drug possession and threatening to kill in a New Zealand murder plot case. Posters for PWRUP have been popping up all over the world over the past week.

AC/DC’s last studio set, Rock or Bust, was released in November 2014 and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. “Shot in the Dark” will drop at midnight on Wednesday.
