Ohio State Senior Under Fire After Admitting To Fear Of Big Games Before Showdown With Oregon

Ohio State Buckeyes lineman Josh Fryar

Ohio State offensive lineman Josh Fryar is catching heat from fans after he revealed his fear of playing on national television to media members on Wednesday.

Fryar, a senior, is the starter at right tackle for the Buckeyes and was a first-team All-Big Ten selection a year ago.

But when it comes to big games and bright lights, the Indiana native says he wasn’t always a big fan.

“I don’t like it on national television, because if you get messed up, everybody knows,” Fryar said. “The reporters, the announcers, everybody.”

As you can imagine, Ohio State fans weren’t very happy with that comment. The Buckeyes play in several big games every season and players have to be uncomfortable in those situations.

“There is no f——- way you have multi-year starters talking like this before a top-five matchup. You belong behind bars @ryandaytime,” one fan wrote.

Pull this dude out of the game if he can’t handle the bright lights,” said another.

The comment also drew ridicule from fans of other teams.

Doesn’t like being on national tv to play football…goes to one of the premiere football programs in the country,” an Oregon fan wrote.

“’I don’t like being on national TV because if you get messed up everyone knows’” is as disgusting an answer as you’ll ever hear, man 😂,” for Memphis offensive lineman Gabe Kuhn said. “Basically telling the media that you’re not ready/don’t enjoy the moment is…well…it’s a choice.”

To his credit, Fryay brought his comments back around.

“Now, I feel more experienced and just ready to play the game. It’s a cool environment cause you never get to experience anything like this ever again in your life,” he said.

Fryar is in his fifth season at Ohio State. He’s in his second year as a starter and has plenty of experience. So if he’s not comfortable now in big games, he never will be.

And given Ohio State’s recent history in those types of games, it doesn’t bode well for Ryan Day or Buckeyes fans.
