New York Yankees Fan Who Got Tossed Seems To Think He’s Part Of The Team: ‘I Patrol That Wall’
The New York Yankees fan who interfered with Mookie Betts making a catch in the first inning of Game 4 of the 2024 World Series between the Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers has been identified.
According to reports, the fan — who not only interfered with Betts making the catch but attempted to rip his glove open to take the ball out after he’d made the catch — has been ID’d as being New York Yankees season ticket holder Austin Capobianco.
His friend, who also interfered with Betts by grabbing at his non-glove hand while he wrestled with Capobianco, has been identified as John Peter.
Despite one of the most egregious instances of fan interference that you’ll ever see, however, Capobianco says that Yankees Stadium security said he’d be allowed back in the building for Game 5.
Speaking to ESPN after the game, Capobianco seemed to show little regret for his actions and he said that he and his friends talk about “D-ing up” their area along the right field third baseline wall.
“We always joke about the ball in our area. We’re not going to go out of our way to attack. If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up. Someone defends, someone knocks the ball. We talk about it. We’re willing to do this,” Capobianco told ESPN (from a bar) after the incident.
“I know when I’m in the wrong and as soon as I did it, I was like, ‘Boys I’m out of here.’ I patrol that wall and they know that.”
Meet Austin Capobianco (middle), the fan that interfered with Mookie. I was talking to him at a local bar when a bunch of other fans asked him to take a pic with him and for his autograph. He was a beaut. Story up soon at ESPN: “If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up.” pic.twitter.com/0XDpfsifvq

Facing the end of their season in Game 4, the Yankees were able to wake up their offense just in time to stave off elimination, beating the Dodgers by a score of 11-4.
Game 5 of the World Series is on Wednesday, October 30 at 8:08 p.m. EST — Gerrit Cole will be on the mound for the Yankees while Jack Flaherty will be pitching for the Dodgers.
