Alabama Coach Shoves Own Player Onto Field In Order To Fake Injury Against Tennessee
As more and more teams go uptempo on offense, fake injuries have become more and more of a problem in college football.
Seemingly every team is guilty of it these days, but the Alabama Crimson Tide may have committed the most egregious case on Saturday when an assistant coach shoved safety King Mack onto the field in order to fake a leg injury.

Video of the incident shows Alabama struggling to substitute in time to keep up with the fast-paced Tennessee offense. When the assistant coach realizes that his team doesn’t have the right personnel on the field, he can be seen shoving Mack, who was running off the field, back onto it.
Mack immediately hits the ground. The officials blow the play dead after the assistant and several other staff members point to Mack lying on the ground.
Shortly after, Mack gets up and walks off the field. He continued to play throughout the game without issue.
Again, Alabama is not alone in this. In fact, SEC rival Ole Miss is probably the most notorious perpetrator. But this is one of the most blatant and egregious examples we’ve ever seen.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has more or less owned up to the fact that he does it. But he claims that he does it in order to show how flawed the rules are in hopes that the SEC or NCAA will do something it about it.
“You’re not going to stop (fake injuries) until you say a guy has to stay out for so many plays,” Kiffin said. “Like anything, there has got to be a penalty for it. Really, if you want to change it, let the conference review it, look at the film, and when they deem it to be an obvious faking of an injury, then there’s a penalty, a fine, and I promise you it would never happen anywhere.”
That’s all fine and good. But at some point, it’s a matter of ethics and these coaches and programs should have some shame. Apparently, we have yet to reach that point.
