Michael Jordan Finally Finds Buyer For Lavish Mansion For Half Of What He Initially Wanted

Michael Jordan has spent more than a decade trying to unload his impressive mansion located in a ritzy suburb outside of Chicago, and it would appear he finally managed to find a buyer after being forced to settle for half of what he was hoping to get when he first listed it.
In the mid-1990s, Michael Jordan used some of the hundreds of millions of dollars he made by being the best basketball player on the planet to construct a lavish estate on an 8.4 acre lot in the town of Highland Park, and he spared no expense when it came to its design.
The 56,000-square-foot home boasts nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, a full-sized indoor basketball court, a cigar room, a massive outdoor putting green, and an infinity pool. The front gate is also emblazoned with a massive “23,” which is just one of a number of references to his legendary basketball career.
In 2012, Jordan (who now primarily resides in Jupiter, Florida) put the mansion on the market for $29 million, but that price has repeatedly been lowered over the years in an attempt to attract a buyer (it’s believed the lack of interest partially stems from the many aforementioned homages to its storied owner, as it’s almost a piece of memorabilia in real estate form).
The asking price was reduced to $14.855 million in 2015, and while that didn’t result in any bites, Jordan has reportedly been unwilling to go any lower due to his belief it isn’t worth any less.
Now, The Chicago Tribune reports His Airness has finally found a buyer 12 years after the mansion was listed; it’s unclear if they met the asking price, but a contract has been signed to move the deal into the closing stage.
It’s safe to assume the mansion will end up selling for more than the $10.1 million the jersey he wore during Game 1 of the 1998 “Last Dance” NBA Finals fetched at auction in 2022, which set an all-time record for any piece of sports memorabilia that fell when the one Babe Ruth was rocking when he called his shot went for $24.12 million earlier this year.
However, that really puts the price of that piece of apparel into perspective.
