Things got a bit chippy during a recent WNBA matchup between the Connecticut Sun and Indiana Fever. At one point in the Sun’s 17-point win, DiJonai Carrington was seen mocking rookie phenom Caitlin Clark.

The jab came after a defensive foul was called on Carrington while she attempted to guard the Fever star.

Carrington stepped in front of Clark as she made a move towards the basket. A whistle was immediately blown after contact, with the Connecticut defender giving Clark a bump as she dribbled by.

Carrington didn’t believe it warranted a foul, saying that Caitlin Clark baited officials into making the call by jerking her head back to emphasize the collision.

She let referees know of her disgust shortly thereafter.

Flopping has been a part of Caitlin Clark’s game dating back to her time at Iowa. Often, she exaggerates contact in order to get to the free throw line.

When calls don’t go her way, she’ll make sure the officiating crew hears it so that they might have a closer eye on things the next time around. It’s gamesmanship seen at every level of the sport.

DiJonai Carrington was fed up with Clark’s baiting, and she made sure everyone knew it. She also locked her opponent down in maybe her most complete game of the season.

Carrington held Clark to just 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting. She racked up six boards and three steals while posting a game-high 22 points for her Sun squad.

Carrington put on a clinic on both ends of the floor to help her team leave with a convincing 89-72 win. Connecticut moved to 10-1 on the year while the Fever fell to just 3-10.
