Colorado Player Who Had Only 38 Yards Last Year Joins Shedeur Sanders To Tear Down Talented Transfer

Kaleb Mathis Shedeur Sanders Xavier Smith

Shedeur Sanders was not kind to former Colorado defensive back Xavier Smith. His Buffaloes teammate, sophomore wide receiver Kaleb Mathis, also piled on to tear him down even more.

There is a lot of irony in their insults and it’s not a good look.

Smith, who started his career at Colorado in 2022, played in only one game as a freshman due to injury. Deion Sanders arrived shortly thereafter. The Pro Football Hall of Famer overhauled the roster in unprecedented fashion and forced quite a few holdovers out the door.

Multiple ex-Buffaloes spoke with The Athletic about their experience and did not have kind things to say.

Smith was among them. He said that Coach Prime encouraged him to transfer because he didn’t want him to “waste a year thinking (he) could earn a spot,” which brought angry tears to his eyes.

Shedeur responded to Smith’s comments with an extremely unkind quip. Colorado’s starting quarterback said that he doesn’t even remember him so he must’ve been “mid.”

Mathis took it one step further and many steps too far in a since-deleted post on X. He shared a video from when he beat Smith in a 1-on-1 rep in practice.

Smith transferred to Austin Peay and earned FCS Freshman All-American honors. The Buffaloes finished 127th nationally in passing defense and 98th in coverage grade. They really could have used him— if not as a starter, as an important depth piece.

And then there is Mathis. The 5-foot-9 receiver had just six catches for 38 yards…

He proceeded to get roasted by Smith’s new teammates, and everyone.

Bruh you had 38 yards last year stop trying to down play somebody!

@Ka1ebMathis you won’t run that one on one back with him now 🤡

— Former Austin Peay DB Jaheim Ward

Mathis ultimately pulled his post because of the overwhelmingly negative response.

Cornball Activity at its finest , you trynna downplay off OTA Film 🤣🤣 👎🏾 He went All American last year do your homework !

— Austin Peay DB Miles Richardson

The whole thing is pretty embarrassing for Colorado. It does not reflect well on the culture in Boulder.

Shedeur Sanders’ post only proved what Xavier Smith had to say about his father. Kaleb Mathis made himself look really dumb and like a coward by deleting his post. Super lame stuff all around.
