Movie Fans Are Hilariously Trying To Pinpoint When The ‘Fast’ Franchise Abandoned Reality

With just a few days left until the official release of Fast X, the 11th (!) movie in the Fast franchise if you count the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff, “fans” of the films have begun to look backward to try and pinpoint the exact moment when the series abandoned reality.
While it’s now known for its sheer unabashed absurdity, the Fast franchise wasn’t *always* like that, as it first began as movies about criminal street racers.
As a result, the pop culture world finds itself trying to figure out what scene in the franchise represents the exact moment when it decided to shift its silliness into overdrive. With over 12,000 quote tweets and 300 million views on Twitter, the sheer volume of engagement proves just how passionate — whether it be in support of or against — people feel about the Fast movies.

The question has also reignited the long-running debate about the Fast movies: is its preposterousness its greatest strength or its biggest weakness?

Given that Fast X is set to be a two-part — or, according to a report from the Fast X premiere, which cited Vin Diesel himself — a THREE-PART finale, there will surely be tons of new insane entries in the Fast & Furious Ridiculous Stunts Hall of Fame.
At the film’s red-carpet premiere in Rome, Diesel claimed Fast X enthralled Universal Pictures executives so much that they asked: “Could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?’” [via Forbes]
It hasn’t hit the cinemas yet but I know my future self watching this is already screaming “hell no”.

Ultimately, regardless of how you feel about the Fast franchise, you’ve got to respect the fact that it’s now been around for over 20 years and has seemingly abandoned the laws of physics along the way.
This was the moment physics became a suggestion to the franchise.

Forget anything you saw in all the Fast and Furious movies , in F9 they sent Roman and Tej flying a car to space to shoot down a satellite, the car survived the breaking the speed of sound, -270 degrees Celsius in space and crashed into the satellite and they made it back to… https://t.co/g82YiWf1kO pic.twitter.com/Tbf3vBSoXP

In addition to Diesel as the unkillable Dom Torretto, Fast X — which hits theaters in the United States on Friday, May 19 — stars Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jason Momoa, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior, Scott Eastwood, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, and Rita Moreno. The franchise also added Oscar winner Brie Larson to its ranks, who made headlines at the premiere in Rome for her own reasons.
