Wax Poetics presents: Chris Read The Breaks (1979-1986) Mixtape
In celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th year, Wax Poetics teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded Rap music, mixed by Chris Read. Alongside the Hip Hop series this companion Breaks series takes our re-cap of Rap History a level deeper, this time reconstructing the classics of the Hip Hop canon from their constituent sample material. Arranged chronologically of course, this mix pieces together popular Hip Hop tunes from 1979 to 1986 utilising only the Funk, Soul, Disco and Boogie tracks from which they were originally constructed.
