College football fans are going to see a lot of changes to the sport over the next few years.

Over the course of the next few seasons we’ll see the College Football Playoff expand and quite a bit of conference realignment.

As teams like Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA, USC, BYU, and Cincinnati change the landscape of college football by swapping the conferences they’ll be representing, there are 10 teams that are trying to really shake things up.

According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, 10 teams from the ASUN and WAC are looking to form their own conference and move up from the FCS to the FBS.

The first teams looking to make this move are Stephen F Austin, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, Southern Utah, and Tarleton State from the WAC and the ASUN’s Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas, and North Alabama.

Those 9 teams are aiming to begin conference play in the FBS in 2024 and then they would be joined by UT Rio Grande Valley in 2025.

This joint effort from the WAC and ASUN would be the 11th conference in the FBS.

These teams aren’t likely to have much of an impact on the college football hierarchy at the top levels in the sport, but it could open up some opportunities for teams fighting for bowl eligibility.

Teams are only allowed to have 1 win over an FCS school count toward their bowl eligibility and some of these schools are popular choices for that one game. Now teams could schedule a game against one of these teams and add an FCS game onto their schedule.

It looks like the top tier of college football won’t be the only part of the game experiencing big changes in the near future.
