The playoffs are set to begin on Friday as the conclusion of the regular season has finally come to fruition. All year Shohei Ohtani remained at the top of the league as a batter and a pitcher. So much so, the LA Angels’ superstar has made MLB history. His season was so impressive that these wild feats may prove he deserves the MVP award over Aaron Judge.

Shohei Ohtani Makes MLB History In MVP-Like Season

The Angels star had two phenomenal seasons in one year. Not only did he excel as a pitcher, but also as a hitter, which is extremely rare in the MLB. According to Sarah Langs, Shohei Ohtani is “the first player to qualify as both a pitcher and a hitter in the same season (based on current qualification rules).”

On top of that, Langs claims that Ohtani also is, “the first player to finish top-15 in MLB in both categories in a season since the mound was moved to its current distance in 1893.” This makes Shohei Ohtani the most well-rounded player in baseball.

Taking nothing away from Judge, as 62 home runs is bonkers in its own right. Especially considering he did it without using steroids or any other supplements. Both Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge deserve MVP praise. However, the Angels’ star proved to be a stud in two separate positions, which isn’t something we see often in baseball.

The MVP argument between Ohtani and Judge may be one for the history books. Even after the winner is decided. They each deserve recognition, but we’ll see who takes home the crown in November when the awards are finally announced.
