Harry Styles Hits No. 1, Elton John & Britney Spears Reach Top 10 on Adult Pop Airplay Chart

Harry Styles, Elton John and Britney Spears mark new milestones on Billboard‘s Adult Pop Airplay chart (dated Oct. 1).

Styles scores his third leader on the list with “Late Night Talking,” following “As It Was,” for eight frames beginning this May, and “Watermelon Sugar,” for a week in October 2020.

Styles’ two latest Adult Pop Airplay No. 1s are from his album Harry’s House, which has also yielded a third entry on the chart, “Music for a Sushi Restaurant.” The song has so far reached No. 32 and hits a new high in weekly plays on the current ranking.

Styles is the only artist with multiple Adult Pop Airplay No. 1s in 2022. Last year, two artists doubled up at the summit: Olivia Rodrigo, with “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U,” and The Kid LAROI, with “Without You” and “Stay,” the latter with Justin Bieber.

Bookending the newest Adult Pop Airplay chart’s top 10, John and Spears’ “Hold Me Closer” jumps from No. 12 to No. 10 (in just its fifth week on the survey; the other nine songs in the top 10 range from 11 to 26 weeks on the chart).

John adds his third Adult Pop Airplay top 10, and second this year: His previous team-up modernizing his catalog, “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix),” with Dua Lipa, led for a week this March. That song updates four John classics, while “Hold Me Closer” focuses on 1972’s “Tiny Dancer” and 1992’s “The One.”

Spears, meanwhile, earns her first Adult Pop Airplay top 10. Among 14 prior entries, dating to her debut with “…Baby One More Time” in 1999, she reached a No. 19 best with “Till the World Ends,” featuring Nicki Minaj and Kesha, in 2011.

Spears boasts 15 top 10s on the Pop Airplay chart, where “Hold Me Closer” pushes 15-13. It’s her highest rank since “Scream & Shout,” with will.i.am, hit No. 3 in early 2013. (The Adult Pop Airplay chart reflects weekly plays, as monitored by Luminate, on reporting adult top 40 stations, while Pop Airplay measures plays on mainstream top 40 panelists.)

As previously reported, “Late Night Talking” earlier this month rose to No. 3 on the all-genre, multi-metric Billboard Hot 100, while “Hold Me Closer” launched at its No. 6 best.
