Concussion Specialist Flames Mike McDaniel, Says 2 Concussions In 5 Days Can ‘Kill Someone’

Last night, we brought you the story of Chris Nowinski, a Ph.D. and founding CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, tweeting just hours prior to Tua Tagovailoa’s scary Thursday Night Football injury that him playing in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals would be a “massive step back” for the NFL.

Lo and behold, Nowinski was unfortunately right as Tua not only got injured against the Bengals but had to be stabilized, carted off, and taken to a nearby hospital with head/neck injuries.

Having obviously gone viral for his comments about Tua and the NFL, Nowinski again addressed the incident on Thursday night and Friday morning, flaming Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel and declaring that two concussions in five days can “kill someone.”

“This is a disaster. Pray for Tua. Fire the medical staff and coaches. I predicted this and I hate that I am right. Two concussions in 5 days can kill someone. This can end careers. How are we so stupid in 2022,” Nowinski said in the immediate aftermath of Tua’s injury.

Then, after seeing head coach Mike McDaniel’s explanation to the media, Nowinski again hopped on Twitter to flame the head coach for not “getting it.”

“Mike McDaniel said it’s good Tua ‘doesn’t have anything more serious than a concussion.’ I don’t think this guy gets it. A concussion is a traumatic brain injury & posturing suggests brain stem injury. It’s pretty high on the list of serious medical consequences of football,” Nowinski tweeted.

Luckily for Tua, the Miami Dolphins, and NFL fans around the world, he was ultimately discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center last night and was able to travel home with the team back to Florida.
