Nets Announce Kevin Durant Won't Be Traded, Will 'Move Forward With Our Partnership'

The Brooklyn Nets have announced they will not trade Kevin Durant following a meeting with Joe Tsai, Steve Nash and Sean Marks in Los Angeles on Monday.

Durant requested a trade from the Nets on June 30th, but the Nets were unable to find a deal to meet their asking price. Durant reportedly preferred a trade to either the Phoenix Suns or Miami Heat, but opened up his list as the weeks progressed and a trade with those teams became implausible.

"Steve Nash and I, together with Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai, met with Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman in Los Angeles yesterday," wrote Marks. "We have agreed to move forward with our partnership. We are focusing on basketball, with one collective goal in mind: build a lasting franchise to bring a championship to Brooklyn."

Durant is entering Year 1 of a four-year, $198 million extension he signed with the Nets last August.

Durant previously met with Tsai in London and requested the dismissal of Nash and Marks.

Durant and Irving signed with the Nets in 2019 and for a time it appeared both players would exit the franchise this offseason. Irving was unable to come to terms on a long-term contract with the Nets, but opted into his contract and grew comfortable remaining with the team. Durant's trade request stood for nearly two months before the resolution.
