Kevin Durant Trade Request May Have Been About Getting Kyrie Irving Traded

While speaking on The Lowe Post, ESPN's Dave McMenamin said that Kevin Durant's trade request might not have really been about leaving Brooklyn. Instead, Durant might have been trying to motivate the Nets to move his star teammate instead.

"There is a school of thought speaking to people around the league that they think the Kevin Durant trade request wasn't actually about him getting out of Brooklyn," McMenamin said. "It was about getting Kyrie Irving out of Brooklyn."

The sense is that Durant has tired of Irving's unreliability and would welcome Irving being traded. To this point, Durant has only asked the Nets for a trade with few details as to why he wants to be traded. Durant is starting Year 1 of a four-year, $197.6 million extension this upcoming season.
