A Boston Red Sox Outfielder May Have Made The Worst Play Of The MLB Season Last Night

Yesterday was a really terrible day for the Boston Red Sox. In their first action since the All-Star break, the Red Sox were absolutely demolished by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Early on in the game, the Blue Jays were spurred on by a brutal defensive play from Red Sox center fielder Jarren Duran. With the Red Sox already trailing 6-0, the Toronto Blue Jays had the bases loaded in the top of the 3rd inning with 2 outs and Raimel Tapia stepping to the plate.
Tapia hit a fly ball to center, that it looked like Duran had settled under. Then it fell well behind him and bounced out the wall. One of his teammates ran behind him to grab the ball, but it was already too late. Tapia was rounding the bases to score an inside-the-park grand slam, giving the Blue Jays a 10-0 lead.
That awful play was really just the beginning for the Blue Jays and Red Sox as the Jays would go on to continue pouring it on throughout the game. They followed up the 7-tun 3rd with 4 runs in the 4th and then 11 in the 5th inning.
Over the course of the game, the Blue Jays would put up 28 runs on 29 hits and 2 Red Sox errors en route to a 28-5 win. That output was good for a tie for 4th all-time in runs scored in a single MLB game with the Red Sox, White Sox, and Braves having all scored 29 throughout history and the Rangers holding the record with 30 runs scored in a 2007 game.
It’s certainly not how the Red Sox will have wanted to return from the All-Star break, but they’ll get a couple of chances at revenge as there are still 2 more games left in this series between two AL East teams fighting for a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.
