The Kansas City Chiefs looked like they were going to blow out the Cincinnati Bengals in the first half of the AFC Championship. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs jumped out to a 21-3 lead before the Bengals scored a TD right before the half. The Chiefs were 7-point favorites and against all odds, they squandered a massive lead.
Joe Burrow rallied the Bengals all the way back to tie the game 24-24 and send it to overtime. When the Chiefs won the coin flip there were flashbacks of to the divisional round where the Bills lost to the Chiefs after not getting the ball in OT. Alas, the Bengals won after finishing 4-11-1 last season and 2-14 the year before and they are headed to the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were seeking to make a third Super Bowl in a row. They came into the season tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the overwhelming favorites to make/win the Super Bowl. At no point were the Chiefs ever considered underdogs, even when they slumped early in the season.
That didn’t stop local KC news station KMBC from sending out a tweet painting them as a team who never had a shot. They described them as a team that was the ultimate underdog. It’s quite possibly the worst underdog take of all time and it is getting dunked on by everyone on the planet. They actually deleted their horrible take from Twitter while I was writing this article which makes it even funnier.

In hindsight, it’s pretty understandable that KMBC would delete their terrible tweet….
We were literally the super bowl favorites what are you talking about

Hi KMBC, I am a New York Mets beat writer for The Federalist. Can I use this tweet in my story about people from Kansas City not understanding the meaning of the word underdog? Thanks in advance.

We were the super bowl favorites to start the season… we were suppose to be here and win. pic.twitter.com/V3C9TbgF44

There are thousands of tweets out there dunking on that KMBC tweet that they deleted. It was one of the most impressive ratios of 2022.
