AOC Slams ‘Creepy’ Gosar For His Fantasy Video of Killing Her With a Sword

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Congress isn’t doing enough to protect women of color who work there after one of her Republican colleagues posted an anime video showing him killing a character with Ocasio-Cortez’s face.

Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar tweeted the video, which uses the theme music and some scenes from the opening credits of the first season of the anime series Attack on Titan, interspersed with footage of migrants and refugees and border cops. In one scene during the minute-and-a-half long video, a character with Gosar’s face photoshopped uses a sword to kill a “Titan” with Ocasio-Cortez’s photoshopped face.

He later credited his own staff with making the video. “The creativity of my team is off the hook,” the 62-year-old Arizona Republican tweeted

Gosar’s video is still available on Twitter, although Twitter restricted users’ ability to share the video and labeled it with this message: ”This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about hateful conduct. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.” Before sharing the tweet was disabled, it had been shared at least hundreds of times.

The video is also still available on Gosar’s Instagram account with no restrictions. It’s been viewed there more than 5,000 times as of Tuesday morning.

Ocasio-Cortez described Gosar’s video as just the latest example of Republican colleagues harassing her in Congress. Previously, Rep. Ted Yoho called Ocasio-Cortez a “fucking bitch,” and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene confronted Ocasio-Cortez on the House floor, challenging her to a debate on the Green New Deal and following her as she left the chamber.

“So while I was en route to Glasgow, a creepy member I work with who fundraises for Neo-Nazi groups shared a fantasy video of him killing me,” she tweeted. “And he’ll face no consequences bc [House Republican minority leader Kevin McCarthy] cheers him on with excuses.”

“Well, back to work bc institutions don’t protect [women of color],” she said.

Other Democrats jumped in to criticize Gosar on Monday. “This man should not serve in Congress,” Rep. Ilhan Omar, a close ally of Ocasio-Cortez in Congress, tweeted late Monday. “Fantasizing about violently attacking your colleagues has no place in our political discourse and society.”

“In any workplace in America, if a coworker made an anime video killing another coworker, that person would be fired,” tweeted Rep. Ted Lieu, a California Democrat.

Gosar’s digital director told the Washington Post Monday that “everyone needs to relax.”

“We made an anime video,” Jessica Lycos told the Post. “Everyone needs to relax. The left doesn’t get meme culture. They have no joy. They are not the future. It’s a cartoon. Gosar can’t fly and he does not own any lightsabers. Nor was violence glorified. This is about fighting for truth.”

Ocasio-Cortez also called Gosar a “collection of wet toothpicks” and credited his actions to white supremacy.

“White supremacy is for extremely fragile people & sad men like him, whose self concept relies on the myth that he was born superior because deep down he knows he couldn’t open a pickle jar or read a whole book by himself,” she added.
