I went to Eminem's new Detroit spaghetti restaurant

I had one shot, one opportunity, to seize everything I ever wanted.

I visited Eminem's new restaurant Mom's Spaghetti. The restaurant, which opened up this week, comes after several years of a pop-up spaghetti shop. It's located in downtown Detroit, across from Ford Field and Comerica Park, and on its opening day, Eminem himself came to serve the pasta. The name derives from a memorable lyric from "Lose Yourself":

"His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti"

I showed up thirty minutes before it opened, there was already a line down the block and Eminem music booming. A Detroit police car was parked on the side of the road and a private security company was escorting shoppers into the merch shop. I was surprised by all the security because the crowd was pretty respectful, albeit hungry. The guards were chatty— one told me that people the day before had waited in line for over six hours.

Luckily, my wait wasn't as bad, probably because I arrived at 3:30pm on a weekday. After an hour and fifteen minutes, I reached the tiny takeout window at the front of the line. I ordered both menu items: a "'sghetti sandwich" for $11 and "mom's spaghetti" with "rabbit balls" (vegan meatballs) for $14.

The cooks in the tiny kitchen handed me my food. I was nervous but on the surface, I looked calm and ready.

The spaghetti came in a little takeout container with a slice of buttery garlic bread. It was utterly similar to my mom's spaghetti, and even though it wasn't a culinary masterpiece, it was all I could have hoped for. The 'sghetti sandwich, in my opinion, is Mom's Spaghetti's magnum opus. Cheese and noodles are tucked between two slices of crispy garlic bread— making a carbohydrate concoction I'll never forget.

I left feeling completely satisfied and very full, but I did not vomit on my sweater.

I only had one shot, and I did not miss my chance to visit Mom's Spaghetti during its opening week. In the words of Eminem, "This opportunity comes once in a lifetime."
