Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon Previews New Duet With Taylor Swift
#Music
Two good turns deserve another. On Tuesday (April 13), Bon Iver leader Justin Vernon surprised fans who tuned in to his Instagram Live when he played a brief snippet of an unnamed, unreleased song he recorded with new musical BFF Taylor Swift.
“That’s the awesome Taylor one. I think this should be the single,” Vernon says in a brief clip of the show, which was captured by fans from the chat.
It was unclear if the song with Swift was for Vernon’s Bon Iver band or for Big Red Machine, his side group with fellow Swift collaborator Aaron Dessner. The quick peek at the acoustic-sounding song with a shuffling beat features Swift singing on her own and the pair melding their voices on what sounds like the chorus.
Big Red Machine’s self-titled debut album was released in 2018 on Jagjaguwar. At press time, spokespeople for Vernon and Swift had not returned requests for comment on the song.
Vernon appeared on both of Swift’s 2020 quarantine albums, singing on the song “Exile” from Folklore and co-writing the title track and performing on several other songs on Evermore, including adding drums on “Cowboy Like Me” and “Closure,” backing vocals on “Marjorie” and guitar and banjo on “Ivy.”
