After literal years of being nothing more than a passionate online fan movement, “The Snyder Cut” is now more of a reality than ever, as director Zack Snyder just dropped the official trailer for the film, which is set to hit HBO Max in just over a month on Thursday, March 18.

Featuring both previously shot, unused film and newly captured footage, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a culmination of close to half-a-decade of work, as Snyder is now finally able to conclude his franchise the way he sees fit following the disaster that was the original, deeply terrible 2017 Justice League.

Not only did Snyder get most of the cast — such as Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, etc.– to return for reshoots, but he even added new characters to the film, such as Jared Leto’s Joker, who wasn’t in the original Justice League. Earlier this week, in addition to releasing a tantalizing first-look at Leto’s Joker, Snyder also confirmed that he’d be sharing scenes with Affleck’s Batman during the Knightmare sequence.

Based on both this new trailer and comments from the director himself, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is obviously going to be quite different than the original 2017, as Snyder has previously said he’d sooner destroy the film than use any footage that he did not personally shoot.

“I would destroy the movie,” Snyder said during a fan-organized online panel. “I would set it on fire before I use a single frame that I did not photograph. I would literally blow that fucking thing up.”

As someone who genuinely loves Man of Steel and thinks Batman v. Superman is a serviceable superhero flick, the prospect of Snyder getting to see his vision through is enticing in and of itself. At the very least, we know it’ll be better than Justice League. Anything beyond that is gravy.

The four-plus-hour Zack Snyder’s Justice League — which will feature a bevy of new characters, including Jared Leto’s Joker, Darkseid allies Daesaad and Granny Goodness, and Harry Lennix’s Martian Manhunter –will hit HBO Max in the United States on Thursday, March 18.
