Rockets Trade Russell Westbrook To Wizards For John Wall, 2023 First Round Pick
The Houston Rockets have agreed to trade Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards for John Wall and a future first round pick.
The first round pick is lottery-protected in 2023 going from the Wizards to the Rockets. The pick is then top-12 protected in 2024, top-10 in 2025, top-8 in 2026 and then becomes two second rounders.
Discussions on a deal had been stalled since mid-October until Tommy Sheppard and Rafael Stone decided to engage on a trade again on Tuesday.
Westbrook will reunite with his former coach Scott Brooks. Westbrook cited a desire to "play my game" and concerns about the Rockets' casual culture. Westbrook has $133 million over three seasons remaining on his contract, with a player option for the final year.
Wall has three years and $132 million on his contract.
