How the Year’s Biggest Games Are Getting A Major Boost From NVIDIA GeForce’s Latest Tech

#DmtDaily

Presented in partnership with NVIDIAS’s GeForce RTX

This holiday season’s slate of graphically intensive games is shaping up to be one of the most impressive – and retina-searing – in recent memory. In addition to hotly-anticipated new entries in Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs franchise and Activision’s Call of Duty series, a little game by the name of Cyberpunk 2077 is set to land like a neon-soaked atomic blast before the year is out.

And while CD Projekt Red’s anxiously awaited action role-playing game will join Watch Dogs: Legion and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in delivering some of the prettiest visuals to ever grace a gaming rig, NVIDIAS’s GeForce RTX is prepared to squeeze even more immersion-ratcheting fidelity and performance from these ambitious offerings.

Talk Nerdy to Me

If you’re even remotely familiar with NVIDIA’S revolutionary graphics card tech, you’ve no doubt heard the terms “ray tracing” and “DLSS” liberally tossed around. More than mere mouthfuls of marketing jargon, these advanced technologies can make a world of difference when it comes to cranking your games’ visual fidelity and frame rates to peak performance levels.

Bordering on the sort of mind-bending tech you might see in one of Spielberg’s sci-fi flick, DLSS – or Deep Learning Super Sampling – leverages artificial intelligence to deliver enhanced speeds and prettier graphics, all without leaving your graphics card gasping for air.

While that bit of wizardry primarily takes place under the hood, ray tracing jumps off the screen and smacks you right in the eyeballs. Capable of rendering incredibly realistic lighting effects, the tech doesn’t so much mimic gorgeous sunsets and torch-lit dungeon corridors, but actually simulates the way light interacts in virtual worlds to essentially produce the real thing.

Of course, all this slick technology amounts to little more than a pile of pixels if it’s not being used to immerse us in our favorite video game universes like never before. Thankfully, the aforementioned titles are stepping up to the plate to put NVIDIA’S GeForce RTX through its paces.

London Calling

Watch Dogs: Legion unfolds in a near-future London, where a unique collision of advanced surveillance tech, rebel hackers, and an oppressive, private military faction find players scrambling around England’s historic capital to make things right. And while the city’s dark turn of events will see players cracking codes and skulls in equal measure, their uprising will be set against one of the year’s most beautiful backdrops.

The detail-packed, open-world metropolis gets a nice boost of realism via ray tracing, producing dynamic reflections that’ll have you doing double-takes. In fact, whether passing a storefront window, stomping through a puddle, or strolling by the River Thames, don’t be surprised if you’re compelled to stop to see the detailed city staring back at you in the reflective surfaces. Toss in max performance – and 8K gaming on GeForce RTX 3090 – courtesy of DLSS, and spending some time in dystopian London doesn’t sound so bad after all.

A Better Black Ops

If you prefer to save the world from the other side of the pond, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has got your back. Combining clip-emptying combat, globe-trotting espionage, and more ’80s era, U.S. vs Soviet shenanigans than you can shake a hammer and sickle at, the sub-series’ sixth installment takes its action and storytelling to nail-biting new levels. Of course, the return of Multiplayer, Zombie, and Warzone modes means you’ll be scarring the battlefield long after the credits have rolled on the conspiracy-riddled campaign.

But whether you’re saving your buddy’s bacon on a sun-baked multiplayer map, infiltrating a dimly lit, underground base, or just briefing President Reagan by the glow of a war room desk lamp, the eye-pleasing realism of ray tracing’s lighting effects will follow you wherever your super-secret missions take you. And DLSS does its part too in Black Ops Cold War, boosting resolution and performance across all game modes.

Punk Rock Game

Once you’ve thwarted evil across the globe in both Watch Dogs: Legion and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, you’ll probably be ready to take a breather. Thankfully, Cyberpunk 2077‘s Night City is the perfect place to unwind, get a body-enhancing robotic implant, and maybe even take down a corrupt corporation or two.

Regardless of what your cyber-mercenary gets up to in the vibrant, future metropolis though, their actions will be complemented by some of the most realistic, prettiest lighting effects to ever illuminate a tech-obsessed city populated by warring gangs and run by shady megacorps. But the cinema-rivaling light rendering is just the beginning, as you can also count on a peppy frame rate to help carry you to your inevitable meeting with Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand.

If you’re looking to leverage ray tracing and DLSS to produce the best possible performance and visual fidelity on future-London’s surveilled streets, the Cold War’s front lines, or in a dystopian city that makes Blade Runner’s Los Angeles look like Disneyland, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX is just begging to bring your interactive adventures to the next level.
