Countertenor John Holiday Blows Away Judges With ‘Incredible’ Range on ‘The Voice’: Watch
#Music
Some singers have a voice. John Holiday has the voice.
The 19th season of NBC’s talent quest kicked off Monday (Oct. 19) with night one of Blind Auditions. Among the standouts was Holiday, a Rosenberg, Texas native who took it to the next level with a rendition of Etta James’ “Misty”.
Holiday is a countertenor with a love for opera, and his high range talents shocked the judges, three of whom turned (Blake Sheldon was the odd one out).
I auditioned for @NBCTheVoice ! Fingers crossed. Something I never thought I’d do. Auditioning for the voice was the most exciting and humbling experience of my life. @NBCTheVoice, thank you for the opportunity. Tune in TONIGHT @ 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT! #TheVoice #NBC #JohnHoliday pic.twitter.com/xO7Qpo914Y

“Your range is so incredible, I didn’t know you’re a dude,” Kelly Clarkson said afterwards. “I was so shocked when I turned around.” She wasn’t the only one.
“Us Johns gotta stick together,” Legend said, applying his best recruitment skills. “Everything that you did was so beautiful, it was so musical.”
Coach Gwen Stefani enthused, “Your tone is just so different from anything else I’ve heard. It sounds so retro in such a great way.”
Just for a little more excitement, Legend blocked Clarkson and took Holiday into his own team.
