Country Artists Applaud Dolly Parton For Comments on Black Lives Matter, Removing Word ‘Dixie’ From Dollywood

Dolly Parton was outspoken about a number of topics in her current Billboard cover story, and other country singers are rallying behind her.
In a short video interview segment Billboard shared on Twitter yesterday (Aug. 13,) Parton talked about renaming her “Dixie Stampede” dinner attraction at her Tennessean amusement park Dollywood to “Dolly Parton’s Stampede” back in 2018, due to the word’s historical ties to the Confederacy.
“When they said ‘Dixie’ is an offensive word, I thought, ‘Well, I don’t wanna offend anybody. This is a business. We’ll just call it The Stampede,'” Parton said of the name change. “And you just do stuff not realizing, but as soon as you realize that it is a problem, you should fix it. Don’t be a dumbass.”
The Chicks, formerly known as The Dixie Chicks, sent their love to the country legend after also dropping the “Dixie” from their group stage name back in June in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Kelly Clarkson and Trisha Yearwood shared the same interview clip and sang her praises, but Margo Price highlighted a different part of the cover story she really appreciated.
When asked about her stance on the BLM movement, the 74-year-old hitmaker responded matter-of-factly, “And of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little white a–es are the only ones that matter? No!”
The That’s How Rumors Get Started singer shared an article featuring the quote and added,” YES DOLLY SAID #BlackLivesMatter.”
