College Football Season Reportedly Expected To Be Canceled This Week

It appears that the college football season is not going to happen in the fall.
According to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde and Ross Dellinger, several heads of the Power 5 conferences held a conference call on Sunday and are set to meet next week with the “expected resolution of postponing fall sports until 2021.”

Leaders around the industry are meeting over the next three days with expectation of a postponement or cancellation to the 2020 fall college football season.

High-level conference meetings are being planned for this week across the college football landscape with the expected resolution of postponing fall sports until 2021, multiple sources have told Sports Illustrated.
“It’s gotten to a critical stage,” one conference commissioner told Sports Illustrated Sunday, after a conference call between the heads of the Power 5 conferences. “I think all of us will be meeting with our boards in the coming days. We have work to do that is no fun.”

Dellinger is reporting that the Big Ten will be the first Power 5 conference to announce that they will cancel the season and are looking for other conferences to join them.

Darren Rovell has also spoken to sources within the Big Ten and they are confirming Dellenger’s report.

College football not happening in the fall sucks pretty bad but it’s not entirely surprising considering how the pandemic is still spreading throughout parts of the country.
