NCT Dream, the seven-member sub-unit of NCT, leaps 9-1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart (dated May 9) to become the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time.

The group leads on the strength of its new EP Reload, which debuts at No. 7 on the World Albums chart with 2,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

The EP’s “Ridin'” concurrently debuts at No. 19 on the World Digital Song Sales chart, marking the group’s ninth entry and first this year.

NCT Dream, which is signed to SM Entertainment, has sent three other EPs onto World Albums: We Young (No. 3, 2017), We Go Up (No. 5, 2018) and We Boom (No. 7, 2019).

Three NCT units have now hit No. 1 on the Emerging Artists chart. Main act NCT first led in May 2018, followed by NCT 127 in December 2018. Plus, NCT’s other sub-unit, WayV, reached No. 16 in January.

NCT stands for “Neo Culture Technology,” and NCT Dream comprises members Chenle, Haechan, Jaemin, Jeno, Jisung, Mark and Renjun.

Meanwhile, five K-pop groups have now topped Emerging Artists: NCT, BLACKPINK and NCT 127, in 2018, and Tomorrow X Together, in 2019, ahead of NCT Dream.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.
