NBA Advises Teams Not To Test Asymptomatic Players, Staff For COVID-19
The NBA issued a memo advising teams not to test asymptomatic players and staff for the coronavirus, league sources told Tim Bontemps of ESPN.
"For the time being, it is not appropriate in the current public health environment to regularly test all players and staff for the coronavirus," wrote the league in the memo.
Teams were also instructed to decide whether to test players "in consultation with an infectious disease specialist, and in consideration of the patient's individual circumstances and guidance on testing related to COVID-19 from the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] and from the local health authority in the team's market."
The memo also added that the NBA was looking for league-wide testing capabilities, and that it anticipates implementing testing standards once team activities resume.
The NBA expects that it will need 15,000 tests to complete its season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
