Fiona Apple Returns to No. 1 on Top Rock Albums Chart With ‘Fetch the Bolt Cutters’

Fiona Apple soars back onto Billboard’s charts, debuting at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts dated May 2 with Fetch the Bolt Cutters, her first new LP in nearly eight years.
The set bows atop both lists with 44,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Of that sum, 30,000 units are via album sales.
The album is her second to lead both charts, following the No. 1 debut of The Idler Wheel… in July 2012.
On the all-format Billboard 200, Fetch the Bolt Cutters enters at No. 4, marking her third top 10, following The Idler Wheel… (No. 3) and Extraordinary Machine (No. 7, October 2005). Apple has also reached the ranking with When the Pawn… (No. 13, 1999) and her debut LP Tidal (No. 15, 1997).
Concurrently, five tracks from Fetch the Bolt Cutters debut on the Hot Rock Songs chart, led by “I Want You to Love Me” at No. 10 thanks to 2.1 million U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads sold. “Shameika,” which starts at No. 15 (1.5 million streams), gets a boost from radio airplay, as it’s bubbling under the Adult Alternative Songs list; it nabbed 386,000 audience impressions on rock radio in the tracking week ending April 26.
Should “Shameika” reach an airplay chart, it would mark Apple’s first such appearance in 20 years, since “Fast as You Can” hit Nos. 8, 20 and 29 on Adult Alternative Songs, Alternative Songs and Adult Pop Songs, respectively, in late 1999/early 2000.
