They also called for greater governmental transparency and for the provision of accurate information concerning the virus. “There is fear, and this is a hazardous disease and its outbreak speed is high. I am worried that it turns into an epidemic,” said a Tehran resident. Another resident said that what is important is to provide people with “the right information” and to exercise “no censorship” related to the disease. Due to the news on the spread of the virus, the prices of face masks and anti-bacterial gel, used to maintain hygiene and to counter the virus, “have gone up” according to a doctor, Pour Esmaeil. One resident considered this to be “unfair” while another said that the government should provide them “for free.\" At a time when the Speaker of the parliament Ali Larijani emphasised the importance of taking immediate and pre-emptive measures to counter the virus, the speaker of the government Ali Rabiei said that Tehran would follow up anti-coronavirus measures using its full capacity.
