Metallica Donates $750,000 to Australian Bushfire Relief Efforts
#Music

Heavy rock legends Metallica are sending more than thoughts and prayers to those battling the bushfire emergency in Australia: they’re sending money.
The Bay Area rockers have pledged $750,000 to the NSW Rural Fire Service and to the Country Fire Authority in Victoria to support relief efforts.
“We are totally overwhelmed by the news of the wildfires sweeping through millions of acres across Australia, with major impact in New South Wales and Victoria,” reads a statement issued by the band.
“The resulting destruction and devastating effects on all residents, animals, the environment and the incredible land in Australia is truly heartbreaking.”
It’s a particular nice touch from a hard-rocking band who’re idolized in the land Down Under, and whose scheduled 2019 tour of Australia was postponed when vocalist James Hetfield sought treatment for addiction.
Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Co. went a step further by posting a string of tweets with background to the ongoing bushfire tragedy and information on how others can help.

The Australian music industry and artists and organizations around the world have rallied behind firefighters and those who are at risk of losing everything to the bushfires, which have scorched more than 12 million acres of the so-called sunburnt country.
At least 24 people have lost their lives to the blazes and a handful of open-air shows have been canceled due to the hazardous conditions, including a Cold Chisel concert and the Lorne leg of Falls Festival.
Pink, Kylie Minogue, Elton John and Keith Urban are among the many performers who’ve donated large sums to Australia’s fire services.
