Hildur Guðnadóttir Wins Best Original Score at 2020 Golden Globes for 'Joker'

The win makes Guðnadóttir the first woman to win this category on her own.
At Sunday night's (Jan. 5) Golden Globe Awards, Hildur Guðnadóttir took home the award for best original score - motion picture for her haunting soundtrack to Joker. It was her first-ever Globe nomination.
The win makes Guðnadóttir the first woman to win this category on her own. (As Billboard awards editor Paul Grein noted when the nominations came out last month, Lisa Gerrard won the 2000 award for Gladiator in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.)
In her acceptance speech, Guðnadóttir thanked Joker director Todd Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix for their support. "Thank you, Todd, for inviting me on the journey of a lifetime, for all the trust and your faith and your openness," she said. "Thank you, Joaquin, for making my job really easy with a spectacular, unbelievable performance."
Guðnadóttir -- nominated on Sunday alongside Alexandre Desplat (Little Women), Randy Newman (Marriage Story), Daniel Pemberton (Motherless Brooklyn) and Thomas Newman (1917) -- is the second Icelandic composer to win in five years, as Jóhann Jóhannsson won in 2015 for The Theory of Everything.
