Here's What Happened on the Scene in Times Square at New Year's Rockin' Eve

Every year, the party in Times Square gets bigger and bigger— and this year was no exception.
Hosts Ryan Seacrest and Lucy Hale rung in 2020 with a star-studded broadcast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on Tuesday (Dec. 31), from the heart of Times Square.
This year was a departure from the last few years of torrential downpours and subzero temperatures, with only light rain to accompany the performers throughout the four and a half hour event.
The last night of the decade kicked off with an energetic performance from the cast of the new Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill along with Alanis Morissette herself. They sang a medley of tracks from Jagged Little Pill, including the classic track “You Outta Know,” where Morissette belted out her signature high notes to the crowd— while soaked with unexpected rainfall.
Country star Sam Hunt was next to perform his two of his feel-good hits, “Kinfolks” and “Body Like A Backroad.” Hunt was all smiles as he harmonized with his band, then made his way to look over at the crowd.
Just around the 10:30 mark, K-pop sensation BTS began their highly anticipated medley on the iconic Times Square red steps, dressed in sequins and featuring their slick dance moves, the group moved to the Times Square stage, with their thousands of screaming fans singing along to their electric pop hits, “Make It Right” and “Boy With Luv.” Fans in the crowd admitted that they had traveled far to see the popular boy band, some from across the country, and others from across the world. It was clearly worth the wait, as the audience excitedly held up signs and sang along with the group.
Post Malone came out on stage early to greet his fans while decked out in a studded hot pink suit. The singer helped ring in the new decade performing his 2019 chart-topper “Circles” and 2016’s hit “Congratulations,” complete with some low key dance moves before heading over to help Seacrest with the countdown.
The party continued after the ball dropped, as the Jonas Brothers made their triumphant return to New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, this time being broadcast directly from their concert in Miami, celebrating 2020 by singing their hit single “Only Human” right after the stroke of midnight, sporting fresh haircuts and “2020” glasses.
The night was filled with the usual confetti and fireworks, with hosts Seacrest and Hale providing witty but not too overbearing commentary. Considering it was Hale’s first stint as Seacrest's cohost, she did very well handing the millions in the crowd. It was a celebration of the year’s top artists, and accurately highlighted them all, right in the bright lights of Times Square.
As Malone’s lyrics, “My momma called/ seen you on TV/ Yeah we made it” loudly echoed through Times Square in the last moments of 2019, it became obvious that say Post Malone really did make it, after a breakthrough year and No. 1 album, and finishing up the decade performing to millions.
