Michael Buble's 'Christmas' Album Makes Annual Return to Top 10 on Billboard 200 Chart

12/8/2019 by Keith Caulfield

The former No. 1 album has visited the top 10 every holiday season since its release in 2011.

Michael Bublé’s Christmas album makes its annual return to the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, as the set climbs 17-6 on the latest tally. The album was first released in 2011, topped the chart that year and has returned to the top 10 in every holiday season thereafter.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Dec. 14-dated chart (where Christmas returns to the top 10) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Dec. 10.

Christmas earned 48,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 5, according to Nielsen Music (up 63%).

Following its five-week run at No. 1 back in late 2011 and early 2012, the album has returned to the top 10 in every Christmas season since. It’s been so successful on the chart, it closes out the decade as the No. 24 biggest album on the Billboard 200 and the highest-ranking holiday effort in the decade.

Further, Christmas has sold 4.3 million copies in the U.S., making it both Bublé's highest-selling album and the fifth-largest selling holiday album since Nielsen Music began electronically tracking sales in 1991.
