TXT Have a Fiery Adventure in 'Magic Island' Mini Film: Watch

11/17/2019 by Tamar Herman , Tamar Herman

Just a few weeks following the release of their music video for “9 and Three Quarters (Run Away),” K-pop boy band Tomorrow X Together, also known as TXT, are back Sunday (Nov. 17) with the release of the music video for “Magic Island,” the second single from their recently-released The Dream Chapter: Magic EP.

The song, an ambient pop melody that veers towards balladry, takes a back seat to the plot in the music video for “Magic Island,” which is more along the lines of a short mini film that expands on TXT’s fictional storyline featured throughout their releases, known as the TU (TXT Universe).

The music video is connected to past releases from TXT and features nods to elements featured in the videos for “Nap of a Star” and “Run Away.” The entire video, like “Nap of a Star,” is broken into a series of chapters, and it references how the five don’t remember past events that have occurred.

During the nearly 14-minute long video, the five members of the group are seen as students who have an adventure together after getting off their subway car while in their school uniforms, ostensibly to ditch class after a text conversation about a mysterious ghost in their practice room, to go to Tteokseom, an island in the middle of Seoul’s Han River park. After mysteriously being transported to what appears to be a “Magic Island,” they explore and celebrate their time together in a fantasy land, but their revelry gets out of hand and flames end up encompassing them. The story ends with the five lying on the ground, surrounded by train tracks, as a dragon flies overhead.

TXT’s TU is the second narrative storyline created by Korean entertainment company Big Hit Entertainment, following BTS’ BU. Some fan theories connect the two, as a dragon also recently appeared in the music art of BTS’ “Make It Right” featuring Lauv. TXT is the first boy band under Big Hit since BTS got its start in 2013.

TXT’s The Dream Chapter: Magic peaked at No. 6 on the Heatseekers Albums chart, dated Nov. 2.
