Selena Gomez Opens With 'Lose You To Love Me' & 'Look At Her Now' at 2019 AMAs

After scoring the first Hot 100 No. 1 single of her career, Selena Gomez brought that hit -- and another new fan favorite -- to the beginning of the 2019 American Music Awards on Sunday night (Nov. 24). The pop superstar made a dramatic return to the AMAs with a combination of the powerful ballad "Lose You To Love Me" and the more upbeat "Look At Her Now" to open the ceremony.
Gomez entered the stage and made the live debut of "Lose You To Love Me" alone with a microphone, the AMAs telecast awash in black-and-white and the arms of fans swaying solemnly to her left and right. Following the second chorus, Gomez ascended a small staircase and was soon flanked by backup dancers; as Taylor Swift and Halsey rooted her on from the crowd, Gomez morphed her performance into a confident dance showcase, and was all smiles as the performance wrapped with a slew of backing pyrotechnics.
"Lose You To Love Me" topped the Hot 100 chart after Gomez made a persuasive comeback with the pair of songs last month; they precede her first album since 2015's Revival, due out in January 2020. "I think she’s had a really long year, and a long year of self-reflection, and … I think she’s really found that strength in time, and now she wants to sing about it," Julia Michaels, who co-wrote both tracks, recently told Billboard. She wants to let people know that she’s strong and that she’s come the f--k back.”
