My Chemical Romance Returns to Billboard Charts After Reunion Announcement

The band’s catalog also leaped 10% in streams & 12% in album units.
Interest in My Chemical Romance’s impending reunion isn’t just translating to ticket sales. The band reaches multiple Billboard charts dated Nov. 9 following the rockers’ Oct. 31 reunion announcement, while its catalog also saw leaps in sales and streams.
Most notably, 10 MCR songs dot the LyricFind U.S. chart, led by “Welcome to the Black Parade,” which debuts at No. 5. (The LyricFind Global and LyricFind U.S. charts rank the fastest momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries and usages globally and in the U.S., respectively, provided by LyricFind. The Global chart includes queries from all countries, including the U.S. The company is the world's leader in licensed lyrics, with data provided by more than 5,000 publishers and utilized by more than 100 services, including Amazon, Pandora, Deezer, Microsoft, SoundHound and iHeartRadio. According to LyricFind, “Welcome to the Black Parade” saw a 376% jump in lyric views following the reunion announcement. “Helena” followed on LyricFind U.S. at No. 10 (up 259% in lyric views).
Additionally, “Welcome to the Black Parade” and “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” reached the LyricFind Global list at Nos. 18 and 22, respectively, proving interest in the band’s reunion worldwide, not just in the U.S.
The announcement of the reunion was posted on the band’s social media accounts, which helped MCR to re-enter Billboard’s Social 50 chart at No. 41 – its first appearance there since August 2016, shortly before the 10th anniversary reissue of The Black Parade the following month. Along with 25,000 hits to its Wikipedia page (a 132% boost), the band’s Twitter account landed 59,000 new followers, and MCR’s handle was mentioned 40,000 times on Twitter.
Though additional gains are expected for the current tracking week (Nov. 1-7), the band’s catalog still saw sales and streaming jumps for the Oct. 24-31 tracking frame, much of it attributed to streams and sales on Oct. 31.
My Chemical Romance earned 7,000 equivalent album units, a 12% jump, with 2,000 of that sum in album sales (up 21%). As for song downloads, the four-piece moved 2,000 (up 33%), and in all, MCR accrued 11.4 million on-demand streams, a leap of 10%.
On Oct. 31, My Chemical Romance – Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero and Mikey Way – announced a Dec. 20 reunion concert at Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall. It will mark MCR’s first live show since 2012. Since then, a handful of other international dates have been revealed.
