AB6IX Make Social 50 Chart Debut After Lizzo Remix & New Album Announcement

10/5/2019 by Jeff Benjamin

The K-pop boy band's new '6ixense' LP drops Oct. 7.

One of K-pop's leading rookie boy bands makes their Billboard chart debut following an all-star collaboration and new album announcement.

AB6IX enter Billboard's Social 50 chart this week at No. 30, marking their first entry on the chart, on the ranking dated Oct. 5. The five-member boy band earned 43,000 Twitter mentions (up 146% from the previous week) and 164,000 retweets (up 104%) during the week of Sept. 20-26.

The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Wikipedia. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers with artist page views and engagement. The chart's latest tracking week ended Sept. 26.

It was a notable week for the guys who hopped on a remix of Lizzo's Hot 100 smash "Truth Hurts," bringing their mix of peppy vocals and smooth rap styles to the No. 1 hit. The new song earned the quintet coverage across new outlets like NME, HotNewHipHop and beyond that helped increase their visibility. AB6IX was also keeping followers excited with teasers leading up to the Oct. 7 release of their forthcoming album, 6ixense. Throughout that same week the band dropped to five sets of new photos hyping up the release.

While AB6IX's debut EP, titled B Complete, did not bow on the U.S. charts, the band has become a standout new artist in Korea and made the most of their first stateside performance at KCON Los Angeles this summer. With AB6IX made up of members from popular groups like the temporary boy band Wanna One (who peaked at No. 2 on the Social 50) and the duo of MXM, it feels like only a matter of time until the group begin connecting to a larger audience as their Social 50 debut indicating growing interest.

Look out for AB6IX's upcoming full-length 6ixense album dropping in a few days, led by the single "Blind for Love." Listen to a preview of the track below.
