Miley Cyrus Live-Debuts 'Don't Call Me Angel,' Covers Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd to Open iHeartRadio Festival

9/21/2019 by Katie Atkinson

Miley Cyrus mixed the old and the new during her opening set at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Saturday night (Sept. 21), performing her new song "Don't Call Me Angel" for the first time (without her fellow angels Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey) while also wailing rock classics by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

"My favorite faces to see in the crowd are confused dads," Cyrus laughed of the parents in the crowd who bring their kids to her show not knowing what to expect -- and definitely not anticipating any classic rock. But classic rock is what they got, starting with Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" as her third song of the set and then continuing with Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" a few songs later. Cyrus looked every part the rocker chick, in her two-piece leather ensemble and wild blond curls.

In addition to the '70s surprises, Cyrus kicked off her set with Mark Ronson's "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart," then sprinkled in She Is Coming singles "Mother's Daughter" and "Slide Away," plus Bangerz hits "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball."

The biggest surprise was when the chiming bells of Cyrus' new "Don't Call Me Angel" collab started, surely making the crowd wonder if Ariana Grande or Lana Del Rey were waiting in the wings. But Cyrus went it alone, playing a track of Ari's chorus and then only performing her first verse before transitioning to the next song. Looks like we'll have to wait for the first proper performance of the A-list female team-up.

Day 2 of the iHeartRadio Music Festival continues Saturday night with sets from Def Leppard, Chance the Rapper, Marshmello and more. Find out how to watch the concert live here.
