Dozens protested outside the Egyptian embassy in Libya\'s capital on Thursday, demanding that Egypt\'s military chief resign as the government in Cairo authorised police to use deadly force to protect police and key institutions from attacks. One protest banner read: \"Down with el-Sissi, the killer of innocents,\" referring to Egyptian military chief General Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi who urged Egyptians to take to the streets to show support for the military\'s move against Cairo\'s protest camps on Wednesday. Egyptian officials said on Thursday that more than 500 people, mostly supporters of ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi, were killed in Wednesday\'s fierce clashes across the country, triggered by the heavy-handed crackdown on the camps. \"Our demands here today are that El-Sissi leaves and that he is put on trial in court for the killing of our brothers,\" Mohamed Abdallah, a Libyan protester said. Despite the government\'s declaration of a nighttime curfew and a state of emergency, violence has continued into Thursday. Angry men presumed to be Morsi supporters stormed and torched two buildings housing the provincial government of Giza, the city across the Nile from Cairo. In the country\'s second largest city of Alexandria, Islamist protesters exchanged gunfire with an anti-Morsi rally, leaving scores injured, witnesses and security official said. Attempts to storm police stations in southern city of Assiut and northern Sinai city of el-Arish left at least six policemen dead and others injured.
