Hong Kong police fired chemical-laced blue water and tear gas at protesters who lobbed Molotov cocktails outside the Hong Kong government office complex on Sunday, as violence flared anew after thousands of pro-democracy supporters marched through downtown in defiance of a police ban. Hong Kong protesters tore down and set fire to a red banner proclaiming the October 1, 70th anniversary of the founding of the People\'s Republic of China and trashed a subway station, breaking windows and vandalizing it with text. The spark for the protests was planned legislation, now withdrawn, that would have allowed people to be sent to mainland China for trial but the protests have since broadened into calls for democratic reforms.
