8/20/2019 by Lars Brandle

Taylor Swift’s "Lover" (EMI) could be a stayer in the U.K., where the song is on track to become her 14th top 10 single.

The title track from Swift’s forthcoming album dropped last Friday and looks set to be the week’s highest debut on the U.K. singles survey, according to the Official Charts Company. “Lover” leaps in at No. 9 on the First Look survey, based on preliminary sales and early streaming reports.

Two Lover tracks have already scaled the U.K. top 10: “ME!”, which peaked at No. 3, and “You Need to Calm Down,” which has a best of No. 5 (the third single “The Archer” topped out at No. 43).

Lover, Swift’s seventh studio album, is due out this Friday (Aug. 23).

Meanwhile, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello's “Senorita” (EMI/Syco Music) is powering towards a sixth non-consecutive week at No. 1, the OCC reports, while Whitney Houston is on track for a first No. 3 hit in 20 years with her posthumous cover of Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love” (Columbia/Kygo) with Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo “Higher Love” is currently at No. 3. The late singer has four No. 1s in the U.K., and last impacted the top 3 with 1999’s “My Love Is Your Love.”

On the midweek U.K. albums chart, Ed Sheeran’s No.6 Collaborations Project (Asylum) leads the way and is on course for a fifth week at No. 1.

The highest debut could go to British singer and songwriter Frank Turner, whose No Man’s Land (Polydor) starts at No. 2 on the Official Chart Update, while new sets by Ride, Murder Capital, Runrig, Killswitch Engage and Friendly Fires make an early run for the top 10.
