Taylor Swift, Rita Ora & More Support Bebe Rexha After She Speaks Out About Ageism in the Music Industry

8/13/2019 by Kirsten Spruch

Bebe Rexha shared a lengthy Instagram post about the ageism she has experienced in the music industry on Monday (Aug. 12), and now several celebs have responded to the "Say My Name" singer with nothing but support.

"I recently had a MALE music executive tell me that I was getting too old and that my brand was 'confusing,'" Rexha first wrote in the caption of a black and white lingerie pic. "Because... I’m a songwriter and I post sexy pics on my Instagram and that’s not what female songwriters are suppose to do, especially for my age. I’m 29. I’m fed up with being put in a box."

Taylor Swift then commented, saying, "DRAG THEM. 29 YEAR OLDS UNITE."

Rita Ora also commented, "My sexy songwriting -- You are beautiful, getting sexier with age and your talent SINGS for itself. Keep making those rules."

Natasha Bedingfield also weighed in: "I know this story and this kind of ‘advice’ is so bullshit. I love you!" Maty Noyes commented, "Same kinda shit happened to me. but we make the rules and we will not be put in a box."

Many others, including The Chainsmokers, Ne-Yo, Tinashe, Justin Tranter, Lauren Jauregui, X Ambassadors, and Jamie Lynn Spears also added their support.

In her caption, Rexha continued on to say: "I make my own rules. I’m tired of women getting labeled as 'hags' when they get old and guys get labeled as sexy with age. Anyways, I’m turning 30 on August 30 and you know what, I’m not running away from it. I’m not gonna lie about my age or sing songs that I feel will sell better because they sound 'younger.' I’m gonna celebrate my age because you know what, I’m wiser, I’m stronger and TRUST ME I’m a much better lover than I was 10 years ago."
