RIAA Names Nancy Pelosi's Former Spokesman Brendan Daly Chief Communications Officer

8/7/2019 by Tatiana Cirisano

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has named Brendan Daly, former chief spokesman to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, its new chief communications officer.

The Duke University graduate most recently served as senior communications director for nonprofit Save the Children Action Network, where he advocated for early childhood education.

He served under Pelosi from 2002 to 2011, leading the communications team during her rise from minority whip to her election as the first female Speaker of the House in 2007, through her first two terms as Speaker.

In his new role based in Washington, D.C., he will lead the RIAA’s media relations, creative, research and economics and Gold & Platinum awards executive team, reporting to RIAA chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier.

“Brendan brings a wealth of substantive and management experience to the RIAA,” Glazier said. “He will collaborate with our leadership and member companies to shape and guide our public voice, as we advocate for a music ecosystem that works for everyone.”

Daly has also served as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative and Ogilvy Public Relations executive vp for corporate and public affairs, in addition to holding top communications positions at the Department of Energy and Peace Corps.

“I am thrilled to join the RIAA at this exciting time. Our member companies provide exceptional value to the music industry in a time of unprecedented creativity and technological progress,” Daly said. “Music matters and it matters to me. Ever since my first live show -- Linda Ronstadt at Merriweather Post Pavilion -- music has been a huge part of my life, listening to vinyl in my youth and streaming a wide range of songs today. I can’t wait to get to work with America’s great labels and artists.”

The hiring news follows the departure of Jonathan Lamy, who departed his post as RIAA executive vp, communications and marketing in March.
