Maren Morris Leads 2019 CMA Awards Nominations With Six, How Many Nods Go to 'Old Town Road?'

#DMT.NEWS

For the second time in four years, Maren Morris leads all nominees for the 2019 Country Music Association Awards.

Morris earned six nods for the 2019 edition, including album of the year for Girl and female vocalist of the year, besting 2016 when she tied with Eric Church and Chris Stapleton with five nods each. This makes 2019 the strongest showing by a female nominee since Miranda Lambert garnered nine nominations in 2014.

Jimmie Allen and Ashley McBryde announced nominations in several categories for the 53rd Annual CMA Awards today (Aug. 28)  during ABC’s Good Morning America, while Midland and Morgan Wallen revealed the remaining nominees via Twitter and YouTube livestreams at Billboard’s New York offices.

Brothers Osborne are close behind Morris with four nominations including vocal duo and musical event for “All My Favorite People” with Morris. Dierks Bentley,  Church, Luke Combs, Kacey Musgraves, Blake Shelton, Stapleton and Carrie Underwood each have three nominations.

Church, Stapleton, Underwood, Garth Brooks, and Keith Urban received entertainer of the year nods. Brooks lands his 13th entertainer of the year nomination, putting him in second place behind George Strait, with 19 nominations. Brooks leads all winners in the category, having already won a record six times. Urban’s 12th entertainer of the year nomination puts him in a tie for third place with Alan Jackson.

While three of last year’s entertainer of the year nominees dropped out (Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean), the acts up for female vocalist and male vocalist are identical to the 2018 nominees.

“Old Town Road” from Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus,  which set the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this year,  was snubbed for song and single of the year, but received a nod for musical event.

Underwood will serve as host of the  2019 CMA Awards on Nov. 13 with special guest hosts Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. The evening’s theme will celebrate legendary women in country music. The CMA Awards will broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
