They are the first K-pop girl group to have music recognized by the RIAA.

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has made history by going gold in the United States.

Their song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" was released on June 15 of last year, and was recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on Aug. 15 with half a million certified units. The song, typically stylized in all caps, peaked on the Hot 100 at No. 55 on the chart dated June 30, 2018.

One equivalent song unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to: one digital song sale, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on Feb. 1, 2016, growing from a pure sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams.

The quartet is the first-ever female group based out of South Korea to be certified by the RIAA, and one of only a handful of acts to receive the recognition, alongside the likes of Psy and BTS

BLACKPINK most recently released “Kill This Love” in April, which peaked at No. 41 on the Hot 100. The group will be holding two 2019 Private Stage shows in Seoul on Sept. 21.

The music video for "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" has over 925 million views on it, and is expected to become the first music video by a K-pop group on YouTube to hit the 1 billion view milestone in coming months.
