Global Citizen Festival 2019: Queen + Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys to Headline

7/30/2019 by Billboard Staff

The 2019 Global Citizen Festival will rock you.

Queen + Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, OneRepublic, H.E.R., and Carole King are among the top talent booked to perform at this year’s event, organizers Global Citizen announced Tuesday morning.

This 2019 edition will take place Sept. 28 on the Great Lawn in Central Park in New York City, with Deborra-lee Furness and Hugh Jackman returning as hosts.

Also confirmed for special guest performances are French Montana, Ben Platt, and Jon Batiste & Stay Human, and co-hosts on the day include Taraji P. Henson, Bill Nye and Rami Malek, whose star turn as Freddie Mercury in the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic earned him several awards, including the Oscar for best actor.

Global Citizen, the social advocacy group, hosts the free, ticketed show each year to raise awareness of its goal to end extreme poverty by 2030.

In the past, Global Citizen attendees have earned their tickets through the completion of various social actions through the festival's app, such as signing petitions or contacting legislators. The lucky winners will be notified throughout the summer.

“Like Live Aid in 1985, we believe this concert will be a milestone,” comments Queen’s founding guitarist Brian May. “It will generate practical solutions to address the world’s glaring anomalies. Global Citizen is an organization which has already moved mountains. We hope this concert will be the beginning of a new era in which all creatures on Earth will eventually benefit.”

This year marks a critical one for the movement. “After next year we will have only ten short years to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” comments Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen.  “The policies and progress that we make this year, and into 2020, will determine whether we successfully eradicate extreme poverty by 2030, and failure is not an option for the world's poor.”

For the sixth straight year, MSNBC & Comcast NBCUniversal will air a live simulcast of the event on MSNBC, and Ken Ehrlich will produce.

“So much progress has been made by Global Citizen towards ending extreme poverty since I last performed at the 2013 festival,” recounts Alicia Keys. “It was one of the most empowering experiences, and I cannot wait to give and feel all the amazing energy in Central Park again.”

Corporate partners this time include Citi and Cisco, while MSNBC, Comcast NBCUniversal and iHeartMedia are signed on as presenting media partners. The festival will also be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitter and concerts giant Live Nation is back as production partner.for a fourth consecutive year.
