Drew Baldridge Tells His Growing Up Story On New Single 'Middle Of Nowhere Kids': Exclusive

Drew Baldridge channels his childhood on the reflective new single “Middle of Nowhere Kids," premiering exclusively on Billboard today (July 18).
The lead track off his forthcoming album, the song highlights Baldridge’s warm vocals alongside soaring guitar parts and a vivid storyline of growing up in the country surrounded by farms and John Deere plows.
The Illinois native’s emotion is felt within every line he sings. “This is for the middle of nowhere kids/ Thinking that there’s gotta be more than this/ Cussin’ the dust and the wind and the red on your skin/ And that one stop light/ All you raised on a John Deere plow boys/ A song for all you cowboys/ Yeah I know right where you live/ All you middle of nowhere kids,” he sings on the chorus.
“Middle of Nowhere Kids” was penned by Randy Montana, John Pierce and Tony Lane. While Baldridge didn’t write the song himself, he says he chose it as his single because it hits so close to home.
“This song is literally my life and everything I stand for,” Baldridge tells Billboard. “I was that [kid] riding a tractor and dreaming of what it would it be like to hear my music being played on the radio one day. Now the world gets to get hear my story. This song is an anthem to anyone that grew up the way that I did. I’m proud to be a ‘middle of nowhere kid.’”
“Middle of Nowhere Kids” follows the release of Baldridge’s digital single “Senior Year” via Cold River Records earlier this year. “Middle of Nowhere Kids” will be added to radio on July 21. It’s the lead track off his forthcoming album, the follow-up to his 2016 debut Dirt On Us.
