This New Beer Is Gay, But You Don't Have to Be to Enjoy It

Gay Beer Is a New Brew That Allows You to Show Your Pride

Gay, straight, bi, trans, or maybe just thirsty — this brew is for you. Coming straight outta Brooklyn, Gay Beer is the beverage that wants to start a conversation while quenching your thirst.

“We created Gay Beer to be the premier craft beer brand to represent a community of beer drinkers that are overlooked by other beer brands,” says co-founder Jon Moore. “We wanted to offer a product that would authentically market to a more diverse and inclusive consumer base, and those who enjoy drinking well crafted beer.”

As for what it tastes like, Gay Beer is “an easy-drinking golden lager made with a unique combination of malt grains and German hops.” It also “introduces nutty flavors with notes of honey and a crisp citrus finish.”

Launched December 13, 2018, the brand has been on a mission to reflect the gay community’s history and pride with their product. However, Moore and fellow co-founder Jason Pazmino aren’t above using their wit to market the brand across social media – something fans seem to enjoy as much as the beer itself.

While the light lager might not be exclusively for gay men, the co-founders could be onto something with their angle. Recent data seems to suggest that gay men aren’t typically the target demographic for beer companies. However, an emerging craft beer and microbrewery market seems to be changing things for the better. Sure, wine, vodka, and gin still crowd the menu at many gay bars, but it looks like beer is making a comeback.

According to the Gay Beer website, the co-founders felt they were “finished waiting for someone else to customize a beer specifically crafted for them, the diverse community they love and the community’s allies.” Moore adds that they spent “16 months developing and finalizing the recipe” with a master brewer before beginning distribution out of Brooklyn.

Gay Beer is clearly looking to score big with a perennially underserved market segment by creating a discussion and breaking traditional barriers with its product. In the battle for booze equality, all makes and models are welcome to join in as allies. You can currently find the lager at discerning bars in New York City, or at taprm.com with a portion of proceeds from sales going back to support LGBTQ+ advocacy.

Drink up.
